Ned is the Offshore Group Manager at ITPEnergised with 11 years’ experience of developing marine energy converters. He has a PhD in wave energy, an MSc in renewable energy systems (both from Loughborough University) and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Southbank University and is a member of the Institute of Marine Engineers, Scientists and Technologists.
Ned’s work has covered most aspects of marine energy converters including consulting and leading multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of marine renewable topics covering resource assessment, detailed engineering design, techno-economic modelling, R&D, and environmental impact. This has given him valuable experience in designing complex marine systems to international standards. He has completed studies for the offshore wind industry on socio-economics, international policy frameworks and international incentive schemes. Ned has sat on a number of industry steering committees, including the SI Ocean Finance Advisory Group and has contributed to recommendations for the IEC’s marine energy standards on the measurement and application of turbulence in marine environments.
Ned was Chief Technical Officer at Offshore Wave Energy Ltd for five years, leading their R&D efforts. He won a grant from InnovateUK for OWEL to carry out a £5m project to design a large scale seagoing demonstrator for deployment at FaB Test and Wave Hub which resulted in a fully costed and optimised design.
Prior to completing his MSc in renewable energy systems, Ned gained extensive commercial, sales and managerial experience developing bespoke products and services for the Airwave police radio network during 8 years working for BT and O2.
